EU Reception prior to Inauguration of Tomb of Tutankhamun Replica

Ambassadors of the European Union and its member states will be joining the celebrations marking the installation of the Replica of Tutankhamun's tomb in Luxor on April 30th. This ground breaking project was created by Factum Arte, a European archaeological institute. EU High Representative Catherine Ashton proposed that the Replica be used to mark the EU-Egypt taskforce, held in November 2012, and the EU,working together with the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities and Factum Arte has played a major part in bringing the replica first to Cairo and now to Luxor.

Tutankhamun’s tomb replica inaugurated in Luxor

Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou inaugurated on Wednesday 30/4/2014 a replica of Tutankhamun's tomb in Luxor. Several Egyptian and foreign officials have participated in the ceremony, including Minister of Antiquities Mohamed Ibrahim, EU Ambassador to Egypt James Moran and 20 of the accredited European ambassadors to Egypt.

During the inauguration ceremony, Zaazou voiced his hope that the tourism sector would witness progress as of the next tourism season.

Zaazou thanked the Swiss government and all European ambassadors for their efforts to bring the replica back to Egypt.
